Powerful Spaghetti with Healthy Ingredients

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let’s talk about store-bought spaghetti, or semi-homemade, healthy spaghetti.

I will be the first to admit that I am not the best cook. I used to believe that I was a good cook before I had children, but since then I think I have lost patience for it. There is always someone talking in my ear or asking an involved question when I am trying to focus on cooking. I have decided to let that go and find decently priced, store-bought resources. Spaghetti ingredients being one of them.

Here is my list of the best ingredients to use to make a healthy spaghetti that can be purchased at most grocery stores (some at Costco as well) with healthier ingredients to save you busy moms and dads time without sacrificing your health. If you are on the Trim Healthy Mama plan, these would be considered drive-thru Sue options. None the less, excellent options that I use for my family. Here we go –

  • Rao’s Marinara Sauce
    • Rao’s is my ultimate favorite! It’s the one I purchase most often because of the ingredients. It can be a luxury item when the budget is tight, however Amazon and Costco usually have it for a lower price than Kroger or any of the other main grocery stores.
    • What I love about it –
      • The ingredient list: Italian whole peeled tomatoes, olive oil, onions, salt, garlic, basil, black pepper, and oregano.
      • A serving is 1/2 cup, there are 3.5 servings per container and within a serving you will get 7g of fat, 5g of carbs, and 4g of sugar. – If you are on Trim Healthy Mama, the 4g of sugar could potentially be a problem for you, I have not had an issue with it, but everyone is different.
    • The company that manufactures this pasta sauce, Sovos Brands, recently got bought out by Campbell’s in August 2023. This could impact the ingredients within the sauce, but for now I am sticking with it. I will keep an eye on the ingredients and change this post if need be.
  • Organic Millet and Brown Rice Ramen
    • One of my all-time favorites for noodles. I love these things! I can use them for spaghetti or for lunch I mix the noodles with a little coconut oil, shredded chicken, and veggies. They are great for so many things.
    • What I love about it –
      • The ingredient list: Organic brown rice flour and organic millet flour. That’s it!
      • It only takes a few minutes for them to cook (once the water starts boiling – let’s be honest, sometimes that seems like it takes forever).
      • They are gluten free and taste like “normal” noodles (I think they actually taste better than white flour noodles).
      • 1/2 a piece of the noodle cake is a serving size. Per that serving there is 1.5 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs, and 0 sugar. Great for the Trim Healthy Mama.
  • Shredded chicken – I usually purchase the rotisserie chicken from Costco, shred it up, and use it for all of my chicken dishes during the week. Another option if you are working on your food storage is Wild Planet Organic Roasted Chicken Breast in a can. This is a good option when you don’t have fresh or frozen chicken.
    • The ingredients are: Organic chicken breast with rib meat and sea salt.
    • I haven’t personally tried their chicken breast, but I do love their canned tuna and salmon. With that said, some reviewers of this product claim there was a tuna smell and some claim there wasn’t. That’s just a heads up.
      • The ingredients in this are chicken breast meat with rib meat, chicken broth, sea salt, tapioca starch, rice starch, and rosemary extract.

Possible side items for this powerfully, healthy spaghetti dinner are:

  • Sourdough toast with coconut oil and seasoning
  • Green salad with avocado oil, lemon juice, and seasonings (I like Green Goddess seasoning from Trader Joe’s)
  • Air fried zucchini with coconut oil, green can parmesan cheese, and seasonings

When I shop for ingredients for my meals, I look for the least amount of ingredients on the label as possible. I cringe when I see fake ingredients on the label and literally cannot place the item in my basket. My kids and my husband always want those things, so on vacations and holidays I’m more lenient. Do you know what they tell me after a few days of eating fake foods? Mom, we need some vegetables and we want real food. No joke. You can do it mama!
