Exciting time at the Coho in Lincoln City, OR

Thanks for coming by to read about a fun and unique hotel off the coast of Lincoln City, OR. The Coho is so inviting, and I can’t wait for you to read all about it. My hope is that you will be able to experience a fun time there too!

My husband and I had been saving up to take a trip out to Oregon to visit his family. We had taken a solo trip out to Oregon several years prior, just the two of us, and it was the best! We had such a great time and we have always wanted to take the kids so they could see their cousins and see the coast. Part 1 of our Oregon trip, starting in Eugene, is posted here.

Desert dwellers looking for cloudy skies

We were finally able to purchase the airline tickets, the hotels, and the rental car. Our whole family was so excited to be able to go. This Oregon visit was toward the end of February. Now, just to note, we live in the desert. When we go away on vacation, we are searching for everything the desert isn’t. I want cloudy skies, rain, fog (a little – not a lot), and water. I don’t want to see brown unless I’m looking at mud that has been utterly soaked in a downpour of rain over the last four days. People think I’m nuts, but I want something completely different. That’s okay, right? Right.

Travel was uneventful, which in my book is a total win. I grew up with a pilot as a father and a flight attendant as a mother. I can remember many times of getting bumped to the next flight and the next flight, having to wait at the airport all day to finally get a flight in the evening. Back then, I also didn’t get to sit next to my parents when we flew, because you just took whatever was available. Nowadays, I just can’t fly like that unless I am flying without my children.

Rambling over. So, we got to Oregon just fine, no problems with the rental car. We stayed at three different hotels while we visited for the week. The first and second hotels we stayed in were amazing. The third hotel, I would not recommend. Now, onto the Coho!

The Coho Oceanfront Lodge in Lincoln City, OR

I chose the Coho because of its proximity to the beach and the decent winter price. If you are ever in Lincoln City, I recommend you stay at the Coho at least one night. It is so fun.

Did I also mention, that during this time that we were visiting this was the most snow the Oregon coast had received in a very long time? We happen to be there during the great Oregon snowstorm shutdown of 2023. ha-ha. That’s what we call it because once the snow hit, everything shut down. More on that later.

The Coho Oceanfront Lodge is friendly, welcoming, and cozy. It is a family run lodge that has been operating for over 40 years. They remodeled the lodge in 2019 to update the entire place. When you walk inside you are instantly greeted by the front desk. They have a large seating area near the fireplace, DVD and board game rentals, and mini refrigerator stocked with local craft beers for purchase. There is also wine if that is your thing.

The most amazing room

The room we stayed in was the family suite with a king bed and sofa bed in the main area and a separate bedroom with a queen size bed. We also were treated to a balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This set-up worked great for our family. My boys loved having the bedroom to their selves which hosted an additional TV and Blu-ray player. The main living area was great as my daughter took over the sofa bed and enjoyed being in the same room as mom and dad. The main living area also had a TV and Blu-ray player. The room came with a small kitchenette with a mini frig, stove, plates, cups, silverware, and dish soap.

When we first arrived in our room, we realized the sliding glass door track was accumulating water. My husband went down to the front desk to let them know and they immediately sent up maintenance. He was able to fix the problem within 20 minutes which was great. They told us they would relocate us to another room if they couldn’t fix it, so either way, the customer service was great.

The separate building

The indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and workout room are in a separate building. It actually makes it really fun to walk outside to the separate pool area, my kids enjoyed that unique experience. When we visited, there had been a big snowstorm, but that didn’t stop anyone! ha-ha. We ran to the pool building from our 2nd floor room, swam, jacuzzied right before leaving, and then ran through the snow back to the room.

Tons of tide pools to look for interesting creatures.

Breakfast served daily

Breakfast is served daily and is complementary with your stay. They served the normal fare such as scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, waffle station, coffee, juice, fruit. The Coho breakfast was better than other hotel breakfasts because they make their eggs from real eggs, which made a huge difference. It is a small breakfast area, but the attendant kept every clean and stocked. It was the most enjoyable hotel breakfast we have had.

Change of plans

We stayed two nights at the Coho. We had planned to go to the Newport Aquarium and venture out to a fun looking German restaurant in town, but we didn’t get a chance too. The snow had fallen so much that the entire town had shut down except for McDonald’s. Thankfully McDonald’s was open otherwise we wouldn’t have had anything to eat except peanut butter pretzels and Trader Joe’s Chile Lime tortilla chips.

The staff was trying to do all they could for the guests that were basically trapped. I had planned to use the laundry room at our next hotel, but luckily the Coho also had a washer and dryer because our daughter ended up getting sick during our second day at the lodge. You do have to pay to use the washer and dryer and it only excepts quarters. The woman at the front desk was kind and didn’t charge me for the laundry soap so this lessened our expense.

Beauty in the small things

Even though the snow kept coming and the town was shut down, we were able to get out to the beach several times. The kids made a snowman and had a snowball fight on the beach! We couldn’t even be upset that we didn’t get to do everything on our bucket list, because how many times do you get to play in the snow and sand at the same time!? Well, for us, probably never again. It was magical. The kids were thrilled by it. They used seashells as the buttons for their snowman.

Lots of stories, but my main point is that the Coho Oceanfront Lodge is a magical, fun place that welcomes families, couples, individuals, and anyone who wants to venture their way. They have a room to suit everyone, and their location can’t be beat. The uniqueness of their lodge and their customer service really set them apart.
