One of my family’s favorite places to stay whenever we are able to is at the Drury Inn. It is family friendly, which is so helpful when traveling with kids of any age.

It has 150 locations within 26 states. The one I am talking about today is located in Flagstaff, AZ. We love to visit this one and had visited during the summer for a Harry Potter scavenger hunt that was taking place in their downtown area. If you haven’t experienced a Harry Potter scavenger hunt, I highly recommend it. It was so much fun!

We also love visiting in the winter when the snow has fallen. I will do a separate post about that later.

Anyway, we stayed at the Drury Inn near the NAU campus. It’s literally across the street from the NAU campus. When we were staying at the Drury, school was out for summer, so we were able to walk the campus grounds. The grounds are beautiful, and the buildings are historic. The school was opened in September of 1899, and you can tell by the design of the buildings and the stone used to create them. If you have a chance to visit the campus to walk the grounds, I highly recommend it.

Drury Inn Flagstaff

The Drury Inn in Flagstaff, AZ has free breakfast, a 5:30 kickback (more about that in a minute), a swimming pool with a jacuzzi, workout center, and a laundry room (there is a cost associated with this one). It is also located about .7 miles or 16 minutes from the downtown area if you are walking. We walked to the downtown area from the hotel, and it was a piece of cake.

One other thing is that they have a parking garage attached to the hotel. You cross a tunnel bridge to get to and from the parking garage. The bridge has windows and once you cross it, the air conditioning is great! The parking garage is better to use than trying to find a spot in the hotel parking lot. When we have visited the parking garage is mostly empty and it is very convenient.

5:30 Kickback –

Let’s get to one of the best parts. Between the hours of 5:30pm and 7:00pm, the hotel offers a light snack (we sometimes use it as our dinner), sodas from the soda fountain, and each adult gets a drink ticket for 3 drinks each night they are staying.

The food isn’t amazing, but it’s not terrible either. We have had bbq chicken on baked potatoes, there’s always a salad, and steamed veggies. We have also been there on nights when they have chicken alfredo or nights where they served ground beef tacos. The menu changes each night, but every night, you will always find hot dogs, tortilla chips, and nacho cheese sauce. Our kids love it. I don’t normally let them eat that, especially not on a regular basis, but since we usually won’t be at the hotel more than two days, I let them eat it.

Everything is free, and you can have as many soda refills as you want during the hour and a half.

If you are an adult wanting to use your drink ticket, go for it. They usually have a list outside the adult drink window stating what they have available. You can always ask for something different and they will gladly make it if they have the right ingredients.

Pool time!

After a long day of hiking or scavenger hunting, we love hitting up the 5:30 kickback and then heading to the indoor pool. The kids love the “hot pool,” their name for the jacuzzi. They go back and forth between the hot pool and the cold pool.

One thing to note, the pool policy has changed. When you check-in for your room, the front desk should have a form for you to sign. The form indicates that you understand the pool rules. We weren’t asked to sign this when we checked in, so when we went down to the pool, our key card wouldn’t work to open the door. When I went to the front desk, the young lady informed me that I needed to sign this form and that they should have given it to me when I checked in. No biggie, just be sure to sign it when you check in so you can use the pool without delay.

Breakfast!

The Drury Inn breakfast is nothing extraordinary. It’s like any free hotel breakfast. They usually have oatmeal, cereal, scrambled eggs, some kind of meat like sausage or bacon, fruit, yogurt, muffins, toast, and bagels. There is a juice station and a coffee station. They also have their soda machine on so you can have soda for breakfast if you would like, no judgement here. Oh! I almost forgot. There’s also a waffle making station. It’s typical fare, but it’s right there at your doorstep. Everyone eats and you can be on your way.

In conclusion –

If you are looking for a cool getaway, the Drury Inn in Flagstaff, AZ is superb. The staff are always friendly and willing to help with whatever you may need. Let me know in the comments if you have visited a Drury Inn. Thanks for reading!
